Knesset to Hold First Wide-Ranging Review of Palestinian Authority Oslo Violations

Next week, the Knesset’s Subcommittee on Judea and Samaria will hold an unusually broad hearing on alleged violations of the Oslo Accords over the years. The session will take place under the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, and it was initiated by the subcommittee chair, MK Zvi Sukkot.

The discussion is expected to include detailed briefings for lawmakers and security officials on a range of issues tied to the Palestinian Authority, including security, smuggling, economic activity, environmental oversight, and the handling of holy sites and antiquities. Officials will also present the political leadership’s instructions regarding these violations, along with actions taken over the years by the IDF and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories.

Ahead of the hearing, Sukkot said that more than three decades after the Oslo Accords were signed, no state institution or Knesset body has ever held a thorough review of the scope of Palestinian Authority violations or the cost to Israel. He said the country has paid a “price in precious blood,” referring to what he described as the deaths of thousands of Jews, and argued that Israel had failed to check how much the other side was disregarding the agreement.

Sukkot added that if the Palestinian Authority repeatedly breaches its commitments, Israel must reconsider its policy and ensure its security and national interests are protected. He described the session as historical and said it is meant to end years of ignoring the reality created by the Oslo framework.
