Nohi Dankner to Be Declared Bankrupt After Court Hearing

Businessman Nochi Dankner will be declared bankrupt and placed into insolvency proceedings after a hearing on Wednesday in a petition filed by four creditor banks. Dankner did not oppose the request. He told the court, “I am raising my hands. I gave everything I have, including a lien on my rights in my father’s house, whose main asset is Beit Haanav in Jerusalem, which I am negotiating to sell to a buyer.”

The hearing was led by Judge Nurit Tabib-Mizrachi. Dankner’s lawyer, Shuli Goldblatt, said at the start that they would not object to the banks’ request. Dankner also told the judge, “For ten years I have effectively been in insolvency. I did everything, including selling my home and receiving grants from friends and relatives.”

The banks seeking the order are Leumi, Hapoalim, Mizrahi Tefahot and Discount. They moved to open insolvency proceedings after Dankner failed in recent months to meet payments under his debt settlement.

Of his NIS 180 million debt, Dankner has repaid NIS 110 million. He said his attempt to rebuild as an independent businessman through Hushan Foodtech failed because of a problem with an investor. The court is expected to appoint a trustee for Dankner’s assets. Once the bankruptcy process begins, he will not be allowed to leave the country or use a credit card.
