הכדורגלנים של נבחרת אירלנד הצביעו והחליטו כי יעלו למשחק מול נבחרת ישראל במסגרת ליגת האומות. ההחלטה התקבלה לאחר דיווחים לפיהם שחקנים, ביניהם השוער המחליף גאווין באזונו, הביעו חוסר רצון להשתתף במשחק. מנכ"ל ההתאחדות לכדורגל של אירלנד, דייויד קורל, אישר במסיבת עיתונאים כי רוב גדול של השחקנים תמך בהשתתפות במשחק. הדיווחים המקוריים, שפורסמו ב"אייריש אינדפנדנט", העלו חשש כי שחקנים נוספים ישקלו לנקוט עמדה דומה, אך ההצבעה שמה סוף לספקות.
