ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו התייחס בסוף השבוע האחרון לסוגיית גיוס החרדים, והצהיר כי הוא "מת לגייס את החרדים". הוא הוסיף כי מי שיאמר "נמות ולא נתגייס" יישלח לכלא. נתניהו גם התגאה בהקמת חטיבת 'חשמונאים' בצה"ל. במקביל, בכירי הסיעות החרדיות הבהירו כי מפלגותיהם לא ייכנסו לממשלה ללא הסדרה מוקדמת של מעמד תלמידי הישיבות. הדברים נאמרו על רקע הדיונים המתמשכים בנוגע לחוק הגיוס והשירות הצבאי של הציבור החרדי.
