Erdogan Slams Israel at UN, Calls Gaza "Concentration Camp"

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a scathing speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, criticizing the organization's Security Council and launching a fierce attack on Israel over the war in Gaza. Erdogan called for structural changes within the UN and greater international action regarding the situation in Gaza, stating that the UN, established 81 years ago to maintain global peace and security, is failing to fulfill its purpose.

He specifically targeted the Security Council's current structure, arguing that the will of over 190 member states should not be subordinate to the decisions of the five permanent members who hold veto power. Erdogan deemed this arrangement unfair and damaging to trust in the international system.

Transitioning to the conflict in Gaza, Erdogan vehemently condemned the humanitarian situation, labeling Gaza as "the most inhumane and shameful concentration camp of our time." He asserted that those with humanity and conscience cannot ignore the events in the Strip and urged global nations to increase pressure on Israel to end the war. Erdogan also highlighted Turkey's critical stance against Israel, with the NATO member accusing Israel of genocide, accusations that Israel rejects.

Furthermore, Erdogan addressed the status of the Palestinian Authority, criticizing the absence of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from the assembly for the second consecutive year, calling it an injustice to Palestinians. He also called on countries that have not yet recognized a Palestinian state to reconsider their positions and grant recognition.
