Palestinian Education Ministry Opens Five New Schools in Nablus
The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education inaugurated five new schools in Nablus on Sunday, coinciding with the start of the new academic year. The new facilities include Al-Haj Abdul Qadir Al-Sawalehi Preparatory School for Boys, Bassam Yaish Mixed Preparatory School, Ra'eesa Arafat Preparatory School for Girls, Adel Zeitoun Preparatory School for Girls, and Al-Haj Subhi Al-Anbatawi Preparatory School for Girls. Additionally, a new floor was added to Muhand Al-Masri School. The total cost for these projects reached $7 million, aimed at strengthening school infrastructure and supporting the "Education for Development" plan.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Education Amjad Barham, Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud Al-Aloul, Nablus Governor Ghassan Daghlas, Nablus Mayorunan Al-Atira, and other local officials, donors, and educators. Minister Barham conveyed greetings from President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, emphasizing the government's priority on education and the partnership between public, private, and local sectors. He highlighted that building schools is an investment in the Palestinian people and their future.
Barham also noted that the simultaneous opening of the academic year in Gaza and the West Bank underscores education's vital role for Palestinians. He praised the resilience of education in Gaza despite the destruction, framing the continued construction of schools as a practical response to Israeli practices and a testament to the commitment to education and human development. He expressed pride in Palestinian teachers.
Mahmoud Al-Aloul described the Nablus school openings as exceptional, reflecting the local community's dedication to service and support for education, especially during challenging times. He commended donors for their contributions, calling support for education an investment in future generations.
Governor Daghlas praised the efforts to complete the schools and the donors' contributions, stating the schools will serve as centers of knowledge and character development. Mayor Al-Atira stressed the importance of maintaining educational continuity and providing a suitable learning environment, thanking families and donors. She added that building a school in Palestine is a message of commitment to education and steadfastness on the land, highlighting the partnership between institutions and the community.
