לקראת משחק הכדורגל בין נבחרות ישראל ואירלנד במסגרת מוקדמות יורו 2024, עולה חשש כי שחקני הנבחרת האורחת לא ילחצו ידיים לשחקני הנבחרת הישראלית. זאת, על רקע המצב הביטחוני והמלחמה בישראל. על פי דיווחים, ההחלטה טרם התקבלה באופן רשמי, אך ישנה נטייה בקרב שחקני הנבחרת האירלנדית להימנע מלחיצת ידיים עם שחקני הנבחרת הישראלית כאות הזדהות עם המצב. המשחק עצמו צפוי להתקיים ביום שבת, 18 בנובמבר, באצטדיון בודפשט, הונגריה, מכיוון שאצטדיון בלומפילד בתל אביב אינו עומד בדרישות אופ"א למשחקים בינלאומיים בשל המצב הביטחוני. ההחלטה הסופית בנוגע ללחיצת הידיים צפויה להתקבל בסמוך למועד המשחק.
