The United Nations Security Council will convene a discussion on Thursday regarding the escalating situation in the Bab el-Mandeb strait, following the Houthi takeover of the waterway. The announcement was made by two French diplomats who spoke to Reuters news agency.

The Houthi control of the strategic strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, has raised international concerns about maritime security and freedom of navigation in the vital shipping lane.
