ראש ממשלת ישראל, בנימין נתניהו, צפוי לטוס לניו יורק בשבוע הבא כדי להשתתף במושב העצרת הכללית של האומות המאוחדות. הטיסה תתבצע לאחר סיום יום הכיפורים. על פי דיווחים, משטרת ניו יורק נערכת לאבטחה ברמה חסרת תקדים לקראת הגעתו של נתניהו. צפוי כי נתניהו ישתתף בדיוני העצרת ויישא דברים ב-26 בספטמבר. למעלה מ-60 שוטרי משטרת ניו יורק, בנוסף לכוחות פדרליים, כוחות ביטחון ישראליים וגורמי אבטחה נוספים, יופקדו על אבטחתו האישית ועל אבטחת האזור הסובב אותו. קיים חשש כי גורמים המעורבים בהפגנות עלולים לנסות לתקוף את ראש הממשלה.
