Hezbollah Detains Suspected Israeli Spy, Then the Plan Goes Off Track

Report: Hezbollah detained in Beirut a man suspected of spying for Israel and planning attacks in Lebanon, According to the report, he later escaped during an Israeli strike in the Dahiya and has not been seen since. He is suspected of being part of a cell run by a Mossad agent from Germany.

The terrorist organization Hezbollah detained in Beirut Khaled al-Aidi, a Palestinian near Syria who also holds Ukrainian citizenship, on suspicion that he spied for Israel and was a member of a cell that planned attacks in Lebanon, including operations near the anniversary events marking the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, the AP news agency reported today (Wednesday).

According to the report, the suspect escaped Hezbollah custody during an Israeli strike in the Dahiya about three months ago. It is believed that he managed to cross into Syria. It was also reported that he arrived in Lebanon on a flight from Ethiopia and was part of a cell allegedly activated by a Mossad agent operating from Germany.

As part of the case, indictments were filed against al-Aidi and six other suspects, all Lebanese citizens. One of them also fled, while the others are being held in custody and awaiting trial.

According to sources in Lebanon, al-Aidi was the only one held by Hezbollah itself, apparently because of the importance the terrorist organization attributed to him. The Mossad and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the report.
