על פי חשיפה של "הארץ", ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו קיבל התרעה על מתקפה אפשרית של חמאס מספר ימים לפני אירועי 7 באוקטובר, אך לא עדכן בכך את צה"ל ושב"כ.

הפרסום מעורר סערה ציבורית וביקורת קשה על ראש הממשלה, שכן אי-עדכון הגופים הביטחוניים עלול היה להיות בעל השלכות הרסניות על מוכנות המדינה למתקפה.

בתגובה לפרסום, ראש הממשלה נתניהו מסר כי לא יירתע מלפעול לחשיפת האמת, גם בבית המשפט, ורמז כי הוא שוקל תביעה נגד העיתון. "הארץ" בתגובה הדגיש כי לא יירתע מלפרסם את האמת.
