Reserve Soldier Slams Shas Campaign Video Over Draft Evasion Remarks

Reserve soldier and journalist Amiel Yerahi has sharply criticized a campaign video released by the Shas party, which depicts a debate about the exemption of Haredim from military service. Yerahi, who recently returned from months of fighting in Gaza, took issue with the video's conclusion, where the argument ends in reconciliation with the phrase "What nonsense." He directly addressed Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, urging him not to trivialize the issue of draft evasion, especially so close to the elections.

Yerahi expressed his dismay at the video's message, questioning if the "nonsense" referred to Haredim not enlisting in the IDF during a difficult war. He clarified that his criticism was not aimed at individuals who have not enlisted but at the campaign's overall message. "I work with Haredim, I returned to the Knesset after months of fighting in Gaza, and I am against personal hatred of those who did not enlist in the army," Yerahi stated.

However, he directed pointed criticism at Deri, emphasizing the disparity between those fighting and those not serving. "But Deri, do not minimize draft evasion right before the elections," Yerahi implored. He concluded with a stark message: "We fought, you did not, and that does not move me."
