בית המשפט העליון דחה היום (שני) את העתירה שהוגשה נגד בחירת הרב אברהם דרעי לרב העיר באר שבע. העתירה, שהוגשה על ידי הרב יורם כהן שהתמודד מול דרעי, טענה לפגמים בהליך הבחירות וביקשה לבטל את תוצאותיו.

לאחר ששקל את טענות הצדדים, קבע בית המשפט כי לא נפל דופי בהליך הבחירות וכי הוא נערך כדין. בכך, נותרה בחירתו של הרב דרעי על כנה.

במשרד לשירותי דת בירכו על ההחלטה, ומנכ"ל המשרד, יהודה אבידן, מסר כי היא מהווה אישור למקצועיות המשרד וועדת הבחירות. "בית המשפט קבע כי לא נפל דופי בעבודת המשרד וכי הבחירה נערכה כדין", אמר אבידן, והוסיף כי המשרד ימשיך לפעול להבטחת הליכי בחירה תקינים ושקופים לרבני ערים.
