The story · English

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion on Wednesday, September 2nd, unveiled a memorial plaque dedicated to the six victims of a deadly terror attack that occurred last year in the Ramot neighborhood. The ceremony took place on Golda Meir Boulevard at the entrance to Ramot.

The attack, which took place on September 8, 2025, saw terrorists open fire on civilians at a bus stop. The assault was stopped by an off-duty soldier and a civilian who neutralized the attackers.

The memorial plaque bears the names of the six fallen: Yaakov Pinto, 25, who immigrated from Spain to study Torah; Yosef David, 43, a Ramot resident and scholar; Alter Yisrael Matzner, 31, a Torah scholar whose fourth son was born after his death; Dr. Mordechai (Mark) Steinitz, 79, a cardiologist who immigrated from the US and pioneered healthy baking; Sarita (Sarah Maya) Mendelson, 57, who immigrated from Argentina and was active in the Bnei Akiva youth movement; and Levi Yitzchak Pash, a beloved resident of Tel Zion who worked at the Kol Torah yeshiva.

Mayor Lion addressed the families, stating, "We gather today, on the eve of the new year, to commemorate your six beloved ones who were cold-bloodedly murdered by evildoers in a murderous attack that occurred at this junction, about a year ago. These six dear ones are a magnificent human mosaic of good deeds and diverse actions. Beautiful and inspiring faces, each in their own way. Henceforth, they will be memorialized on this remembrance plaque, for all passersby to see, 'for eternal remembrance'. The Jerusalem Municipality and its residents send a warm embrace and sincere condolences to all of you, the dear families. We pray that the days of mercy and forgiveness will bring good tidings, salvation, and comfort."
