WhatsApp Web Starts Testing Group Voice and Video Calls

WhatsApp has begun rolling out group voice and video calling on WhatsApp Web, according to a new report from WABetaInfo. The feature is appearing first for some beta users and lets them start voice or video calls from a group chat directly in the browser, without installing the desktop app.

The update is designed to close a long-standing gap between WhatsApp’s full app and its web version. Until now, users who wanted group calling on a computer had to switch to the dedicated desktop application. The new browser-based option is intended to make the web client feel much closer to the mobile experience.

According to the report, the feature will support up to 32 participants in a call. It will also include end-to-end encryption and other tools already available on other WhatsApp platforms, such as screen sharing, invite links for calls, and scheduling future meetings. This is part of Meta’s broader effort to turn the browser version into a more independent, full-featured platform.

In recent months, WhatsApp also started enabling one-to-one voice and video calls through the browser. The new group calling rollout is still limited, but its appearance in beta and initial distribution suggests a wider launch could come soon. For users who cannot install a separate app, the upgrade could make WhatsApp Web a nearly complete communication tool.
