Eight Arab Citizens Killed by Israeli Police Since Early 2026

Eight Arab citizens have been killed by Israeli police since the beginning of 2026, according to a report by "Arab 48." In most of these incidents, police stated that the shootings occurred during confrontations or due to a perceived danger to officers' lives. However, the victims' families and eyewitnesses have questioned the official accounts, demanding independent and transparent investigations.

The victims include Sharif Hadid from Daliyat al-Karmel, shot by a soldier in January. The "Arab 48" report documented the eight individuals: Sham Shami from Acre, killed in January; Ahmed Ashqar from Kabul, killed during a pursuit in February; Rafi Abu Tarif from Yarka, killed during a pursuit south of Majd al-Krum in March; Mohammed Hussein Tarabin from Tarabin al-Sanea, killed in January by a silenced pistol in front of his family during a village raid; Ahmed Saeed Al-Naami from Rahat, killed during a police pursuit in May; Yousef Abu Juaid from Ar'arat al-Naqab, whose family claims he was shot in the head, contradicting police reports of a traffic accident after a pursuit; Sami Ahmed Ja'sous from Lod, killed in July, with police alleging he attempted to stab an officer, a claim disputed by the Lod Popular Committee; and Rami Shalabi from Sulm, killed in July after police stated he was observed shooting at a house.

These fatalities occur amidst growing criticism of the use of lethal force by Israeli police, particularly in cases involving Arab citizens. Families and witnesses frequently express doubts about official narratives and call for professional, transparent investigations. In some instances, investigation files have been closed without charges being filed against police officers, such as the case of Mahdi Salameh from Ar'ara in 2025.
