Mali and Liel Yehalomi Flee to Argentina Amid Growing Debts and Family Concerns

Mali and Liel Yehalomi, who disappeared after fleeing to Argentina, had accumulated debts exceeding 200,000 shekels before leaving Israel. The family had previously guaranteed some of these debts, and the sisters reportedly feared that relatives might try to prevent their departure, leading them to conceal their plans completely, even celebrating a birthday together shortly before vanishing. Their disappearance was discovered when they failed to board their return flight from Vienna to Israel, prompting family members to alert security services who then visited their home in Modi'in. Mali's son, who remained in Israel and is financially supported by her, provided passwords to her computer and iPad, aiding in locating them.

Authorities involved in the investigation clarified that no criminal offense was committed and that the sisters did not seek refuge in a country without an extradition treaty. Instead, they intended to legally withdraw cash and choose a destination with a relatively low currency value. Since being found in Argentina, it has emerged that Mali decided to start a new life after 20 years abroad, leaving the family in Israel to handle ongoing financial and personal responsibilities, including rent, leased vehicles, and care for a dog left behind, as well as supporting Mali's son and grandson.

Police emphasized that this is not a kidnapping case, confirming from the start that the disappearance was a personal decision without external involvement. A local Argentine police representative interviewed the sisters, who confirmed their choice was voluntary. A family insider questioned the logic behind Mali's decision to move to Bolivia, citing the lack of a functional healthcare system and the difficulty of finding work, even in Israel.

Additionally, a family acquaintance suggested that someone might be assisting the sisters, noting that despite Mali's technophobia and inability to use apps independently, metadata files that could have revealed their location were deleted, implying help from someone knowledgeable in digital privacy and concealment.
