Mali and Liel Yehalomi, who disappeared from Israel after failing to return from a trip to Vienna, were located in Argentina where they contacted their family late at night to assure them their departure was voluntary. The family was shocked, especially since just days before, they had celebrated Mali's 50th birthday with a surprise party that gave no hint of their plans. Sources close to the investigation revealed Mali was burdened with debts exceeding 200,000 shekels and had attempted to resolve her financial troubles before fleeing.

The Yehalomi family, including Mali's ultra-Orthodox son Avitar who remained in Israel unaware of the escape plan, has been left to manage the fallout, including unpaid rent, leased vehicles, a dog left behind, and financial support for Avitar and Mali's young grandson. After the disappearance, family members with security backgrounds accessed the Yehalomis' apartment in Modiin and helped track their whereabouts using passwords left behind.

Photos shared by local Argentine police showed Mali without her traditional head covering, indicating a desire to start anew. Investigators believe someone with technical expertise helped erase digital traces to conceal their location. Despite rumors, police confirmed no kidnapping or criminal intent was involved; the women sought to legally withdraw cash and relocate to a country with a weaker currency.

Family members suspect Mali hid her plans to avoid interference, fearing relatives might block their departure or be held responsible for debts. The choice of Bolivia or Argentina as destinations raised questions about their future livelihood given the lack of healthcare and economic opportunities. The disappearance also caused a sharp drop in Bank of Jerusalem's stock, where Mali worked, prompting clarifications from the bank.
