Israeli Mother and Daughter Flee to Argentina Amid Heavy Debts and Family Shock

New details have emerged regarding the disappearance of Mally and Liel Yahalomi, an Israeli mother and daughter who fled to Argentina. The family left behind significant debts exceeding 200,000 shekels, which had accumulated over several years. Just days before their disappearance, Mally celebrated her 50th birthday with a surprise party where no one suspected their plans to leave the country.

After being located in Argentina, Liel contacted her family through local police, tearfully assuring them that both were safe and that their departure was voluntary. She expressed regret for the worry caused and promised to provide updates. The apartment they rented in Modiin was found fully furnished and equipped, with no signs of a planned move. Mally's son, an Israeli resident and religious scholar financially supported by her, was completely unaware of their plans and helped the family by providing passwords for devices left behind.

Sources involved in the investigation believe Mally's financial struggles were a primary motive for their flight. Despite efforts to improve her situation, including earning a master's degree and receiving a promotion, her debts continued to grow. The secrecy surrounding their departure was partly due to fears that family members might prevent them from leaving or attempt to cover their debts. Some relatives had even co-signed financial obligations for Mally, increasing the need for discretion.

Family members were also surprised to see Mally without her traditional head covering after her return to religious observance about 20 years ago, interpreting this as a sign of their desire to start anew and leave their past lives behind. While Mally and Liel remain in South America, their family in Israel is left to manage the aftermath, including the apartment, leased vehicles, their dog, and support for Mally's son and grandson.
