Israeli Police Arrest Suspect in Caucasian Mafia Boss Yanis Yusubov's Murder in Hadera

Israeli security forces arrested Yaron Shimron, the suspect in the assassination of Yanis Yusubov, head of the Caucasian mafia, at a warehouse in Hadera. The arrest, carried out by the Yamam counterterrorism unit, involved a swift raid on the ground-floor warehouse where Shimron was hiding. Witnesses described a tense scene with armed officers in military gear detaining the suspect and a woman, handcuffing them and covering their eyes. Neighbors expressed relief that the police acted quickly, noting the danger of an armed fugitive in a residential area.

Yanis Yusubov was fatally shot earlier this month outside a restaurant near a gas station in the Caesarea area. According to initial reports, Yusubov was ambushed at close range by the assassin as he left the restaurant after a meeting. Despite emergency medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera. Yusubov was a notorious figure in organized crime, known for his leadership of the Caucasian mafia and involvement in numerous criminal disputes in the Hadera region.

The murder is linked to a long-standing feud that dates back over a decade. In 2015, Alchin Abshaev, a released prisoner, was killed in Hadera, with intelligence suggesting Yusubov's involvement in orchestrating the hit. Two years later, Yusubov himself was shot and seriously wounded by Abshaev's brother during a funeral. The brother was convicted and sentenced to six and a half years in prison. Despite these violent episodes, the conflict between the factions persisted, continuing to impact the local criminal landscape.

Shimron's arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into Yusubov's murder. Police conducted an extensive search of the warehouse and surrounding area, confiscating various items as evidence. The operation was described by witnesses as intense and unsettling, with some initially fearing a terrorist attack due to the heavy police presence and tactical gear. Shimron's lawyer has been identified but has not yet commented publicly on the case.
