Jerusalem's Beit Yisrael Neighborhood Launches Boycott Against Market Stalls Near Shteiblach Synagogue

A significant dispute has erupted in Jerusalem's Beit Yisrael neighborhood as the management of the well-known Shteiblach synagogue, together with the local residents' committee, announced a consumer boycott against market stalls set up at the entrance to the prayer hall. The synagogue officials and neighborhood residents claim these stalls cause disorder, considerable distress to passersby, and serious safety and environmental hazards in the heart of the community.

The stalls, including those selling electronic products, have attracted inappropriate gatherings featuring music and delays caused by individuals dressed in ways deemed unsuitable for the synagogue's atmosphere. This has led to overcrowding at the synagogue entrance, making access difficult, especially for disabled worshippers who struggle to find parking for wheelchairs and strollers.

After several unsuccessful appeals to remove the stalls, the synagogue management escalated the matter by posting a strong notice urging the public to completely boycott the stall owners. The notice warns that the area risks turning into a marketplace with accompanying disturbances, including inappropriate behavior near synagogues, which they describe as a desecration. It calls on worshippers to protest by refusing any dealings with the stall owners until they vacate the area. The notice concludes with a prayer for the coming of the complete redemption and the rebuilding of the Temple. The statement is jointly signed by the Shteiblach management and the neighborhood residents' committee.
