Family of Woman Who Died After Stillbirth Alleges Medical Failures at Soroka Hospital

Noura Abu Adra, 42, a mother of six in her 34th week of pregnancy, died in the intensive care unit at Soroka Hospital following a cesarean section after a stillbirth. Her family claims her death resulted from a series of medical failures, contradicting the hospital's statement that it was a rare complication. The tragedy was first reported by Walla.

According to Abu Adra's relative, Abd al-Khalek Abu Adra, she arrived at the emergency room around 11:30 p.m. complaining of severe upper abdominal pain but remained in the general emergency department for about four hours before being transferred to the maternity emergency unit at 3:30 a.m. There, further tests revealed internal bleeding and a liver rupture. Despite emergency surgery and efforts to stop the bleeding, her condition worsened, and she died the next morning.

The family alleges that during her initial hours in the general emergency room, she was mainly given painkillers and that blood tests were delayed and had to be repeated due to invalid samples. They also claim there was confusion among staff about whether she had experienced water breaking, which was only confirmed later. The family is demanding answers about the delay in transferring her to the maternity emergency unit and whether earlier detection of the bleeding and liver rupture was possible.

Soroka Hospital expressed condolences to the family and stated the case has been reported to the Ministry of Health and is under investigation.
