Netanyahu Pushes Full Freeze on Arrests of Haredi Draft Evaders
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is advancing a new initiative to halt all arrests of Haredi draft evaders, according to a report Monday by i24NEWS. The plan would fully freeze every enforcement and arrest procedure now being used against draft dodgers from the ultra-Orthodox sector.
The effort is being driven by pressure from within the Haredi world. The main push is coming directly from the Beitar group of the Belz Hasidic leadership and from the circle of Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch, both of whom have demanded an immediate solution that would completely stop further arrests of Haredi evaders.
In recent days, Netanyahu has held several dedicated conversations on the issue. After those talks, he instructed the cabinet secretary to move the process forward in practice, while the matter is still in the relevant legal discussion stage.
The government is expected to pursue the move through a fast-track legislative process to be written as a temporary order. The goal is to complete the legislation before the Knesset is expected to dissolve next month.
