Reports: Tunisia Sacks Coach After 5-1 Loss to Sweden
Tunisia have reportedly fired head coach Sami Trabelsi after a heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden on Monday morning in Monterrey. According to multiple reports, the loss, coming amid mounting criticism, ended Trabelsi’s spell in charge.
The decision followed another poor warm-up result for Tunisia, a 5-0 loss to Belgium nine days earlier. That defeat left Tunisia on a run of three consecutive matches without scoring, and the federation is said to have decided that the Sweden performance was the final straw.
Former Tunisia striker Wahbi Khazri, who is currently with the squad as an analyst, is expected to take over at least temporarily. Khazri retired a year ago, made 74 appearances for the national team, and played in Tunisia’s previous two World Cups.
Tunisia’s remaining Group G fixtures are set for June 20 against Japan in Monterrey and June 26 against the Netherlands in Kansas City. Sweden will face the Netherlands on June 20 in Houston and Japan on June 26 in Dallas.
