Drugs Smuggled into Gaza Hidden Inside Humanitarian Aid Canned Goods

Israeli authorities confirmed a serious incident involving the smuggling of drugs into the Gaza Strip concealed within canned pepper packages sent as humanitarian aid. The World Central Kitchen (WCK) discovered six packages of hashish weighing approximately 600 grams, along with about 160 grams of other prohibited substances, during the unloading and preparation of aid shipments in Gaza. The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) strongly condemned the event, stating it demonstrates Hamas's willingness to exploit humanitarian aid for its own purposes. COGAT emphasized its commitment to working with relevant parties to prevent the misuse of humanitarian aid mechanisms.

This incident comes amid ongoing concerns about the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza, with hundreds of trucks delivering supplies despite repeated violations by Hamas of agreements mediated by the Quartet. Recently, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman criticized Prime Minister Netanyahu for continuing to send hundreds of aid trucks to Gaza, arguing that reconstruction efforts should not begin before Hamas disarms. The discovery of drugs hidden in aid shipments adds to the controversy surrounding the aid deliveries and Hamas's conduct in the region.
