Former Yesh Atid MK Elazar Stern Joins Gadi Eizenkot's Yashar Party

Elazar Stern, a retired IDF Major General and former Knesset member, announced on Monday his decision to join the Yashar party led by Gadi Eizenkot. Stern left Yesh Atid, led by Yair Lapid, about a week and a half ago. He expressed deep trust in Eizenkot's leadership, describing him as a leader who prioritizes the country's welfare above political or personal interests. Stern emphasized the need for reliable, experienced leadership in Israel during challenging times and highlighted his lifelong belief that leadership begins with service, responsibility, and personal example.

Stern stated his vision for Israel as a Jewish, democratic, and liberal state that unites its society and fosters pride in Jewish identity while respecting all individuals. Eizenkot praised Stern as a longtime friend and partner who brings extensive experience from his military and political career, including serving as a minister, Knesset member, and IDF general. He noted Stern's commitment to national service, bridging societal divides, and promoting Zionist values rooted in Judaism and democracy.

Born and raised in Tel Aviv to Holocaust survivor parents, Stern was a founding member of the Hoshaya community in the Lower Galilee, where he currently lives with his wife, five children, and seventeen grandchildren. Before entering politics, he held senior IDF roles such as commander of Bahad 1, chief education and youth officer, and head of the manpower division. Elected to the Knesset in 2013 with Yesh Atid, he served as Intelligence Minister and chaired the State Control Committee.
