Former MK Elazar Stern Joins Gadi Eizenkot’s Yashar Party After Leaving Yesh Atid

Former Member of Knesset and Intelligence Minister Elazar Stern announced his departure from Yesh Atid last week and has now joined the Yashar party led by Gadi Eizenkot. The announcement was made on Monday by Yashar, highlighting Stern’s extensive experience in public service, including over a decade as an MK and his previous role as Intelligence Minister in the last government.

Gadi Eizenkot praised Stern as a longtime friend and partner who has dedicated decades to Israel’s security and public service. He emphasized Stern’s representation of national religious Zionism, commitment to service, responsibility, and bridging Judaism with democracy. Eizenkot also referenced the ongoing draft law debate, noting Stern’s courageous and principled voice is especially important amid current societal divisions.

Stern explained his motivation for joining Yashar, stating his belief in leadership rooted in service, responsibility, and personal example. He expressed his vision for a Jewish, democratic, and liberal state that unites society and ensures everyone shares responsibility for its future. Stern cited his longstanding acquaintance and deep trust in Eizenkot’s leadership, describing him as a reliable leader who prioritizes the country’s welfare above political or personal interests.

Elected to the Knesset in 2013 with Yesh Atid, Stern served as Intelligence Minister, chaired the State Audit Committee, and participated in key committees including Foreign Affairs and Defense, Constitution, Finance, and Immigration Absorption. In the most recent Knesset, he chaired the Subcommittee for IDF Human Resources and was a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

Stern’s move to Yashar reflects a shift towards a party led by a former IDF Chief of Staff, emphasizing experienced, responsible leadership during a time of political and social challenges in Israel.
