Liberman warns Iran-US deal could lead Israel into diplomatic and economic disaster
Yisrael Beytenu chairman MK Avigdor Liberman sharply attacked the agreement announced by Iran and the United States. Speaking at the start of his faction meeting, he said, "If the agreement had been signed under the change government, Netanyahu would have accused us of treason." He added that under the current leadership, Israel has already suffered "the most severe security disaster in Israel's history since the Holocaust," referring to the October 7 massacre, and warned that the country is now being led toward what he called the worst diplomatic disaster ever to hit Israel and then an economic disaster tied to the cost of living.
At the same time, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced overnight that Iran and the United States had reached an agreement and that the signing would take place on Friday in Switzerland. He said that after intensive talks, "a peace agreement" had been reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that both sides had declared an immediate and permanent halt to military activity on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Sharif said the formal signing ceremony would be held on June 19 in Switzerland. He thanked the United States and Iran for their commitment to a diplomatic solution and also praised Qatar for mediating the deal. He further singled out Saudi Arabia and Turkey for their contribution to the process.
According to Sharif, the mediators will hold a series of meetings during the week. Those preliminary discussions are meant to lay the groundwork for technical talks and preparations for the official signing ceremony.
