Israeli Man Expelled from Athens Social Event Over Alleged Security Risk

Rafi Rom, an Israeli and Jewish resident of Athens for 12 years, claims he was expelled from a social event on July 19, 2025, after organizers learned of his nationality and religion. The incident took place at a rooftop bar called 21 Grams in Avissinias Square, central Athens, during a gathering hosted by Nomad Hub Greece, a community for digital nomads, remote workers, and travelers. The event was publicly promoted as an international social party with free entry upon registration, and about 76 people had confirmed attendance.

Rom said he arrived when 50 to 60 people were already present, ordered a beer, and began socializing. After introducing himself as Israeli and Jewish, security personnel approached him minutes later and told him he had to leave because he was considered a "security risk." Rom said he was shocked and asked for clarification but was only told the organizer requested his removal due to this alleged risk. He emphasized he had not behaved disruptively or caused any issues before being asked to leave.

Rom suspects his expulsion was solely due to his Israeli identity. He described feeling deeply insulted and humiliated, especially since the event was advertised as open and international. He said he was in shock during the incident and did not document it at the time. Rom stated he will no longer attend events hosted by the same organizer and wants to warn others. As of the article's publication, the event organizers and venue had not responded to requests for comment.
