Shin Bet Chief Informs Election Committee Chair No Intelligence Threatens Gadi Eizenkot
Noam Solberg, chairman of Israel's Central Election Committee, denied claims that he decided against providing security for Gadi Eizenkot, head of the Yesh Atid party. Solberg stated that Shin Bet chief David Zini approached him voluntarily to inform him that the agency had received requests from Eizenkot's circle regarding his security. According to Solberg, Zini assured him there was no intelligence indicating any intention to harm Eizenkot, emphasizing that Shin Bet is the professional authority on such matters.
Solberg added that if any warnings about threats to Eizenkot arise, Shin Bet would inform him immediately. He also clarified that he did not make any decisions about Eizenkot's security, as he is not authorized to do so. Under Section 7(a)(2) of the Shin Bet Law, the agency provides protection only to individuals designated by the government, not by the election committee chair.
