Ironi Tiberias Denies All Charges in Doping Allegations Ahead of Disciplinary Hearing
Ironi Tiberias submitted its defense on August 23 ahead of a disciplinary hearing scheduled for September 10 regarding doping allegations known as the "infusion affair." Represented by a legal team including Zvi and Eyal Yafe, Zion Amir, and Nir Lor, the club completely denies the accusations and demands the complaint be dismissed outright. The defense argues the indictment lacks sufficient factual basis and is primarily founded on assumptions and conjecture.
The club also challenges the legitimacy of the complaint filed by M.S. Ashdod, claiming it was submitted a month and a half late without justification, violating regulations and representing improper third-party interference unrelated to sports integrity. Ironi Tiberias criticizes the investigative firm for conducting a biased and inappropriate inquiry, alleging threats and disrespectful language toward those questioned, and hints at involvement of senior federation officials compromising the investigation's independence.
On a regulatory level, the club contends it is wrongly accused of "assisting in the use of prohibited substances," noting that according to WADA rules, fluid infusions are not prohibited substances but at most a technical violation. They further dispute claims that players received more than the allowed 100 milliliters within 12 hours, stating no evidence supports this and that the case relies on unfounded assumptions rather than medical facts.
Finally, Ironi Tiberias condemns attempts to implicate Miki Beitan, who they say holds no official role in the club, calling such leaks an artificial effort to damage the club's reputation. The disciplinary tribunal must now decide whether to accept the club's preliminary arguments and dismiss the case.
