Trump Says Iran Shot Down U.S. Apache Helicopter, Vows Response

President Donald Trump said on Monday that Iran had shot down one of the U.S. Army’s most advanced Apache helicopters the previous night while it was patrolling over the Strait of Hormuz. He said there were two pilots aboard and that both were safe and unharmed. Trump added, “The United States must, by force of circumstances, respond to this attack.”

His remarks came amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran after a series of recent confrontations and mutual accusations in the Persian Gulf. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global oil shipments, and any military escalation there raises concern about damage to worldwide security and the economy.

The Iranian parliament speaker, Mohammad Qalibaf, also issued a threat, saying, “Iran prefers diplomacy, but it speaks other languages much more fluently.” The incident could lead to further escalation between the two rival states, with the main open question being whether Washington will choose a direct military move or try to apply pressure by other means.
