Chef Omer Miller Moves Family to Thailand for Yearlong Homeschooling Adventure

Israeli chef and restaurateur Omer Miller has left Israel with his wife, content creator Shiran Kedar (Shirenka), and their three children for a year-long stay in Koh Phangan, Thailand. Miller shared the decision on Instagram, explaining that since meeting Shiran, he dreamed of traveling the world for a year. He noted that his busy career in the restaurant industry, followed by family life and the COVID-19 pandemic, had prevented such a trip until now.

The couple also sought an educational framework for their children and, unable to find a suitable option, decided on homeschooling during their travels. Miller emphasized that this was the right time for both the year abroad and home education. In a Q&A session, he assured followers they will return to vote in the upcoming Israeli elections and mentioned that their pets left in Israel are now cared for by friends in the north.

Miller acknowledged the financial sacrifices involved but expressed confidence in following their hearts. Addressing concerns about homeschooling, he challenged the notion that formal schooling is the only way to learn reading and writing, noting his children already read and write Hebrew letters and some sentences. He hopes by the end of the year they will also learn English.
