Three Former Teachers Return to Same Israeli School After Years Away

Three teachers who left the Israeli education system have returned to teach at the same school where they previously worked, sharing their reasons for leaving and motivations for coming back. One of them, Shimon Ben Abu, had planned to move to the United States with his family in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed their plans. He eventually moved to Miami in 2021, managing family real estate and later joining his wife's business. Despite the challenges abroad, Ben Abu maintained close contact with his former colleagues, who encouraged his return.

In July 2025, Ben Abu and his family moved back to Israel, and two months later he resumed his teaching role at the school in Ashdod. He expressed deep affection for his work and gratitude for the opportunity to return, acknowledging the difficulties in the education system but emphasizing his personal motivation and positive energy. His colleagues noticed his enthusiasm despite the challenges.

Another teacher, Sara Meirman, stepped in to cover for colleagues called up for extended reserve duty during a recent conflict, quickly reintegrating into the school community. She highlighted the satisfaction of contributing without taking on a full workload, focusing on enjoying teaching and making a meaningful impact. The teachers noted that their students’ matriculation exam results have been excellent since their return, underscoring the positive outcomes of their decision to come back to education.
