Misleading Information Triggers Suspension Request for Footballer Omer Dahan

Legal complications have arisen regarding the suspension proceedings against footballer Omer David Dahan. On August 23, 2026, Dahan's lawyers from Cohen-Brewerman law firm filed a formal complaint to Israel Police Commissioner Major General Daniel Levy. The complaint demands an urgent investigation into the conduct of the Lahav 433 investigative unit and its communication with the Israel Football Association prosecutor.

According to the complaint, on August 2, the head of investigations at Lahav 433 sent an official letter to the football association prosecutor stating that a comprehensive investigation into Dahan was completed and that there was an "intention to file a criminal indictment" against him. This letter formed the main basis for the prosecutor's August 17 request to the disciplinary court to suspend Dahan from all football activities under disciplinary case number 185102.

Dahan's legal team argues that this letter presented a false impression to the football association bodies. They emphasize the crucial distinction between the investigative unit's position and an official prosecutorial decision to file charges. The lawyers question the grounds on which an external party was informed of an "intention to indict," stressing that such information, coming from a governmental authority, directly affects Dahan's status, livelihood, and reputation.

The defense insists that the difference between an investigative recommendation and a formal prosecution decision is fundamental to administrative fairness and the presumption of innocence. They demand an urgent inquiry into who authorized the letter's transmission to the football association and the true status of the case at that time. If no formal prosecution decision has been made, they request the police to promptly issue a written clarification to the football prosecutor and disciplinary court to correct Dahan's legal status.

Additionally, the complaint calls on the police to review procedures and improve protocols regarding the sharing of investigative information with external disciplinary bodies.
