Maccabi Tel Aviv Set to Profit from Guyagon's Transfer to Saudi Club
The turbulent relationship between midfielder Parfait Guiagon and Belgian club Charleroi has ended, with the player set to join Saudi club Al-Taawoun. According to reports from Belgium, Charleroi and Al-Taawoun have reached a preliminary agreement, and Guiagon, a former Maccabi Tel Aviv player, is expected to sign a three-year contract soon. The Saudi club is coached by Žarko Lazetić, another former Maccabi Tel Aviv figure.
The transfer follows a deep crisis between Guiagon and Charleroi's management and fans, culminating after the season opener against Louvain. Despite being named man of the match, Guiagon refused to celebrate, left the stadium without collecting his award, and had a severe verbal confrontation with club president Mehdi Bayat in the players' tunnel. Guiagon's camp claimed Bayat physically assaulted him in front of witnesses, while the club suspended Guiagon and excluded him from the squad for the next game, citing illness.
Although the transfer fee has not been disclosed, Maccabi Tel Aviv stands to gain financially from the deal. The Israeli club holds about 20% of any future transfer profit from Guiagon, along with solidarity payments. Transfermarkt values Guiagon at around 5 million euros, which would yield Maccabi approximately 730,000 euros from the sale.
This development marks a significant exit for Guiagon from European football to the Saudi league, while Maccabi Tel Aviv benefits from the transfer due to their retained financial stake.
