Israeli Military Criticized for Facing Jewish Rioters Alone in West Bank

Israeli security officials have sharply criticized the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for being left to confront Jewish rioters in the West Bank without sufficient support from the police and other state authorities, according to a report by Kan News on Friday. Sources within the security establishment claim that instead of firm enforcement by the police, soldiers are forced to handle these incidents on the ground, often lacking appropriate tools and adequate backup. These officials warn that the events, occurring openly before the international community, cause significant diplomatic damage to Israel, exhaust IDF forces, and divert their focus from combating terrorism and protecting local residents.

Earlier on Friday, 17-year-old Karim Shalalda was shot dead during clashes in the town of Sa’ir near Hebron. According to reports, a security officer from a nearby settlement opened fire, claiming he feared for his life. Another Palestinian was injured in the shooting. The IDF stated that a group of Jewish individuals went hiking in Area B and were attacked with stones by Palestinians; the hike had not been coordinated with relevant security forces. Palestinians, however, reported that the group set fire to a house in the town and said two others were injured, including a 70-year-old.

In related developments, the IDF is considering removing a checkpoint on the route from Modi’in to Jerusalem. Additionally, the military expelled Jewish rioters who arrived at the village of Kusra despite a commander’s order prohibiting entry.

These incidents highlight ongoing tensions and the challenges faced by Israeli security forces in managing law enforcement and security in the West Bank amid rising violence and political sensitivities.
