Petah Tikva Stadium Set for Expansion to Over 12,500 Seats by Next Season
The "Shlomo Insurance" Stadium in Petah Tikva, home to local football teams Maccabi Petah Tikva and Hapoel Petah Tikva, is undergoing significant expansion. Petah Tikva Mayor Rami Greenberg revealed in an interview with Sport 5 that plans are advancing to add between 2,500 and 3,000 new seats to the current 10,000-seat capacity, potentially increasing total seating to around 12,500 to 13,000. The project is expected to cost over 10 million shekels and aims to be completed within six months, targeting readiness by the start of the next football season.
The expansion process is currently in the planning and approval stages, including safety arrangements and building permits, with a tender to be issued once plans are finalized. The southern stand is not expected to have a roof. Beyond the stadium itself, the surrounding area is being developed into a large sports complex featuring training fields used by thousands of youth, facilities for artistic gymnastics, and the Olympic Committee's new headquarters. Additional amenities like padel courts are also planned.
Infrastructure improvements complement the stadium upgrade, including a new interchange on Highway 4 and investments exceeding 1.2 billion shekels in roads, interchanges, and junctions. The location benefits from proximity to multiple transit options, including a light rail, metro, and heavy rail lines currently under construction, ensuring improved accessibility for visitors.
This development follows similar upgrades in Israeli football stadiums, such as the new stadium in Ashdod and the expansion of the Maccabi Netanya stadium, reflecting ongoing progress in Israeli sports infrastructure.
