Israeli Police Use Drone to Capture Suspect Hiding Glock Pistol in Southern Bedouin Area
Israeli Border Police fighters from the Southern National Guard recently arrested an 18-year-old suspect for concealing a Glock pistol in an open area near Rahat in the southern Bedouin community. The operation was part of a targeted mission in Rahat, where forces conducted proactive searches using a drone to monitor the area from above. The drone detected suspicious movement when the suspect appeared to remove an object from a vehicle and then attempted to flee on foot. The officers pursued, located, and detained him. A search near the arrest site uncovered the Glock pistol wrapped in paper and hidden in the open.
The suspect, a resident of the Bedouin community, was taken for questioning at the Rahat police station and subsequently remanded in custody after a court extended his detention for several days. Police continue to intensify efforts to locate illegal firearms in the southern region, employing technological tools such as drones alongside ground operations. This arrest adds to a series of recent weapons seizures in the Negev and Bedouin areas.
According to data revealed in July, approximately 460 weapons, including pistols and military-grade arms, have been confiscated in the Negev since early 2026, with a significant portion seized within the Bedouin communities. The ongoing crackdown reflects the authorities' commitment to curbing illegal arms possession in the region.
