Post-War Gaza Control Uncertain Despite Israeli Military Gains

Following the recent conflict, fundamental questions remain about who will govern Gaza and whether it will continue to serve as a military threat to Israel. The Oslo Accords had previously granted the Palestinians civilian and security control over large parts of the Gaza Strip, with hopes that this transfer of authority would foster stability and reconciliation. However, these hopes were not realized. In 2005, Israel unilaterally disengaged from Gaza, expecting the move to reduce friction and improve prospects for peace, but the outcome was the opposite.
