Fire Near Hebron Settlement Apheka Brought Under Control, Residents Evacuated Safely

A wildfire that broke out near the settlement of Apheka in southern Mount Hebron on Wednesday afternoon was brought under control by evening. The fire threatened to spread to residential areas, prompting the evacuation of Apheka residents, who were unharmed. Road 60, which had been closed between Adorayim and Ataniel due to the fire, was reopened to traffic.

Firefighting efforts involved numerous ground crews, including volunteers, local farmers, and teams from neighboring districts, as well as four firefighting aircraft from the Elad Squadron. The teams operated on multiple fronts to halt the fire's advance. Concurrently, Hebron police officers from the Judea district secured the scene and assisted in road closures during firefighting operations.

Police Deputy Commander Eliyahu Zaiton and Fire and Rescue Commander Tamir Erez conducted an on-site situation assessment with representatives from Magen David Adom and local authorities. Zaiton ordered continued concentrated efforts until the fire was fully extinguished and residents could safely return home. Commander Erez highlighted the rapid and robust response that prevented the fire from reaching homes, emphasizing the coordinated effort among emergency services, including the South Mount Hebron Regional Council and Judea district police. Firefighters will remain on site for additional containment measures in the coming hours.
