Former Mossad Official Dismisses Iranian Threat of Attacks in Europe as Misinformation
Chaim Tomer, a former senior Mossad official, expressed skepticism about Iran planning attacks in Europe, calling such claims "nonsense." Speaking on 103FM on August 19, 2026, Tomer criticized Israeli decision-makers and highlighted the need for a new strategy, citing the Chief of Staff's warning that the Israel Defense Forces are close to collapse.
Tomer emphasized the seriousness of the Iranian threat, noting that Iran still possesses 700 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent and has the capability to rapidly enrich it to 90 percent. He also pointed out unresolved issues regarding the Hormuz Strait, which were not fully addressed in agreements.
Reflecting on Israel's failures since the 2023 war, Tomer identified a strategic mismanagement in handling the conflict. He stressed the importance of momentum and the need to translate military gains into a security arrangement, noting that the Iranian leadership has been severely weakened but that opportunities to capitalize on this have been missed.
Tomer's comments suggest a call for reassessment of Israel's approach to Iran, urging a shift from reactive measures to a more comprehensive strategic plan.
