Sanz Rebbe Visits Safed Community Ahead of High Holy Days
The Sanz Rebbe from the United States recently visited the ancient synagogue of the Sanz Hasidic community on Tarpit Street in Safed, Israel. Ahead of the Days of Awe, he prayed evening prayers and held a special festive meal (tish) for community members, strengthening their spiritual preparation for the upcoming High Holy Days.
In related events, Rabbi Yaakov Meir Schechter, a senior Breslov rabbi, officiated the brit milah (circumcision) of the Sanz Rebbe's great-grandson, the grandson of Rabbi Asher Rozenfeld, with the Sanz Rebbe of Pinsk-Karlin honored as sandek (godfather). The ceremony took place at Rabbi Schechter’s residence, followed by a celebratory meal.
Other Hasidic leaders have also been active in recent days: the Tosh Rebbe in Ashdod opened the month of Elul with a strengthening speech and blessings for yeshiva students; the Satmar Rebbe visited summer camps in the Catskills, laying a cornerstone for a new building and dancing with community leaders; and thousands of Bobov 45 Hasidim gathered in the Catskills to begin the month of mercy with prayer and the distribution of plums by their Rebbe.
The article also highlights the Karlin-Stolin Rebbe’s rare public remarks condemning violence following a recent attack in Jerusalem, praising community defenders but warning that violence is not the way of Torah. Additionally, the Mendelborna Rebbe visited the Hasidic center in Ramat Beit Shemesh D, distributing honey and discussing community expansion plans.
These events reflect the vibrant spiritual activity among various Hasidic groups in Israel and the United States as they prepare for the High Holy Days, emphasizing prayer, community gatherings, and religious ceremonies.
