Retired Brigadier Dedi Simchi Urges Party Unity Ahead of September Elections
Retired Brigadier General Dedi Simchi is calling for a political merger among parties ahead of the September 7 Knesset elections, hoping to form a broad coalition government with 70 to 75 members of parliament. Simchi, who has been in contact with Ayelet Shaked and other political figures, warned that without such unification, all parties risk failure. He emphasized the importance of genuine unity rather than superficial alliances, stating that the key difference between parties is whether they truly commit to unity or not.
Simchi envisions a balanced government that includes diverse political voices, including those of figures like Yair Golan. He described ongoing negotiations and expressed optimism that some leaders are willing to set aside egos for the good of Israel. He suggested that last-minute changes and mergers among fragmented lists remain possible, cautioning that failure to unite could lead to collective downfall.
Highlighting the urgency, Simchi noted that the final deadline for submitting party lists is September 7, after which no further changes will be possible. He described the political environment as increasingly tense, with more obstacles than opportunities as the deadline approaches. Simchi remains hopeful that a broad and stable government can be formed through cooperation and compromise.
