The story · English

Rabbanit Sarah Rachel Israelzon, daughter of the late Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv and widow of Rabbi Yosef Israel Israelzon, passed away at age 93 at Maayanei Hayeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak. She had recently attended her grandson’s engagement celebration before collapsing the next day and being hospitalized, where her condition worsened until her passing overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Born in Jerusalem in 1933, she was the daughter of Rabbi Elyashiv and Mrs. Sheina Chaya, granddaughter of Rabbi Aryeh Levin. She married Rabbi Yosef Israel Israelzon, head of the Bar Shaul Kollel in Rehovot, and lived in Bnei Brak near prominent rabbis including Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman and Rabbi Yitzchak Grodzinski.

Throughout her life, she mourned the loss of several siblings, including Rabbi Shlomo and Rabbi Avraham Elyashiv, and was survived by her sons Rabbi Dov, Rabbi Avraham Tzvi, Rabbi Shlomo, and Rabbi Lipa Israelzon, as well as her son-in-law Rabbi David Sofer, rabbi of the Alfei Menashe community in Bnei Brak. She also mourned the passing of her granddaughter Miriam Epstein.

Her many descendants gathered to recite Psalms by her bedside. The family expressed the traditional blessing, "May her soul be bound in the bond of life."
