Son Shoots Father in Neck with Improvised Arrow in Family Dispute in Neve Yamin

The Central District Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Moshe Levi, 39, from Neve Yamin, for shooting his 61-year-old father in the neck with an improvised arrow fired from a fishing spear gun on July 30, 2026. The incident followed escalating tensions over several days, rooted in Moshe's drug addiction and repeated demands for money from his father. Moshe admitted to preparing the arrow and holding the spear gun but claimed the shooting was accidental. However, security footage and police tests contradicted his version, showing him aiming and firing deliberately.

The conflict began on July 20 with a physical altercation and threats, leading the father to sever direct contact and use a neighbor as a mediator to transfer money and prevent further clashes. Despite warnings, Moshe returned that evening, causing property damage and sending threatening messages. On July 29, he sought to buy a new spear gun arrow but instead fashioned one from a 52 cm iron rod. The next day, after a failed attempt to get money from the neighbor, Moshe confronted his father outside the family home, fired the arrow into his neck, and forcibly entered the house through a broken window.

The father was hospitalized in critical condition with the arrow lodged near his spinal cord and major blood vessels, risking paralysis or death. Moshe fled the scene, abandoned his car, and was later arrested in a Netanya apartment where cocaine was also found. The prosecution accuses him of aggravated assault, vehicle damage, and drug possession, citing his prior convictions and the severity of the attack. They argue that Moshe poses a danger and may intimidate witnesses, requesting he remain in custody until trial. The father reportedly fears his son and was pressured to claim the shooting was accidental, a statement the prosecution disputes based on evidence.
