Israeli Couple With Infant Caught Shopping in West Bank's Area A, Police Intervene
Israeli police recently received a report about a Jerusalem couple in their 30s and 40s who entered Jericho in Area A of the West Bank with their one-year-old child, allegedly to shop, in violation of the law. Following the report, officers from the Beqaa station in the Gilad region, along with a police officer from the Jericho unit, launched a search to locate the family quickly, ensure their safety, and secure their protection. Under police guidance, the family exited Jericho, whereupon the couple was detained and questioned at the Beqaa station.
The Israeli police reiterated that Israeli citizens are prohibited by law from entering Area A, as it poses a serious life-threatening risk both to the individuals entering and to security forces who must often conduct risky rescue operations. Entering Area A is a criminal offense punishable by up to one year in prison. The police emphasized their commitment to enforcing the law, locating violators, prosecuting offenders, and providing rapid operational responses when citizens' safety is at risk, all while maintaining public security.
