Netanyahu Opens Road Named After Father in Ariel and Announces New University Hospital
On Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the new Amirim neighborhood in Ariel, located in the West Bank, to inaugurate a road named after his late father, Professor Benzion Netanyahu. The event marked a significant milestone in Ariel's planned expansion, with the new road symbolizing growth and rootedness as Netanyahu and Ariel Mayor Yair Shitrit planted an olive tree along the route. Netanyahu expressed deep emotion about the tribute to his father, who dedicated his life to Jewish history and strengthening the nation.
The Amirim neighborhood is part of the larger Ariel West complex, which is expected to include 12,000 housing units and triple the city's population. Currently home to over 22,000 residents, Ariel is projected to grow to more than 50,000 within the next decade, aiming ultimately for 100,000 inhabitants. Mayor Shitrit emphasized the national significance of this development, describing it as a transformative step that will establish Ariel as a major metropolitan center.
During his visit, Netanyahu also announced the establishment of a university hospital in Ariel, alongside Mayor Shitrit, university CEO Yoram Shai, and President Ehud Grossman. This new medical facility will enhance Ariel's status as a leading academic and healthcare hub in the region. The mayor reaffirmed the city's commitment to continued growth and strengthening Ariel's role as the capital of the Samaria region and an emerging metropolitan area in Israel.
