Police say murder of the Frihodko couple has been solved
Police said on Monday morning that an indictment will be filed against a minor from central Israel over the murder of Olga and Ruslan Frihodko near Mishmar Ayalon. Investigators concluded that the suspect knew the victims beforehand, a fact that helped rule out a nationalist motive and strengthened the assessment that the killing was criminal in nature.
The investigation also found that after the murder, the suspect tried to cover up his involvement. According to police, he attempted to use the victims’ credit cards, hid the weapon allegedly used in the killing, and took additional steps to obstruct the investigation. Detectives eventually located the murder weapon.
During a nighttime reconstruction, the suspect pointed out his route and described the stages of the crime. The probe also found that two West Bank residents, who will be indicted for shooting offenses and illegal entry into Israel, had access to the weapon used in the murder.
Central District police commander Amir Cohen said, "This is a despicable murderer and a shocking murder. The murderer thought he could hide behind lies, concealment of evidence, manipulation and obstruction of the investigation. Central District investigators and Shin Bet investigators acted decisively and professionally, and uncovered the truth step by step with expertise."
