Israeli Man Dies Under Mysterious Circumstances in Peruvian Prison After Three Years
A 62-year-old Israeli citizen from Petah Tikva, identified as Daniel Amona, died in a prison in Peru after being incarcerated there for over three and a half years. He was arrested in January 2023 at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima when drugs were found in his luggage. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear. Upon receiving the news, ZAKA's international unit and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs began coordinating with his family and Peruvian authorities to manage the necessary procedures and arrange for his body to be returned to Israel for burial. Yossi Landau, the commander of ZAKA's Lachish region, stated that they are supporting the family and working to ensure a dignified burial in Israel as soon as possible.
